ELKHORN — Thomas A. Routt, 57, of Elkhorn has pleaded not guilty to charges related to the killings of a bartender and her husband at a sports bar in southern Wisconsin. Attorney Russell Jones entered the plea for Routt on Friday, who faces two counts of first-degree intentional homicide, robbery, attempted first-degree intentional homicide, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Routt remains in jail on a $2 million cash bond. The fatal shootings of Gina Weingart, 37, and Emerson Weingart, 33, occurred on February 1 at the Sports Page Bar in Elkhorn. Police reported that robbery was the motive, with Routt admitting to taking $120 to $140 from an open cash drawer. An eyewitness detailed that Routt brandished a handgun after playing gaming machines for about 30 minutes, leading to the tragic events. Investigators recovered a 9mm handgun and ammunition, concealed in trash, after Routt disclosed its location to law enforcement officers.
