The film’s popularity surged after news broke of the Titan submersible’s devastating tragedy, claiming the lives of CEO Stockton Rush, French Navy veteran Paul-Henri Nargeolet, British billionaire Hamish Harding, Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood, and his son Suleman, who was only 19 years old.
The Titanic movie was directed by James Cameron and starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. It tells the story of Rose and Jack, who fell in love on the ship despite their different societal backgrounds. The pair witnesses the Titanic hit the iceberg causing it to sink. Rose declined to board one of the lifeboats, choosing to stay behind with Jack instead, ultimately leading to them holding onto a piece of wood floating in the freezing ocean.
The film was re-released for its 25th anniversary in February and is one of the highest-grossing movies of all time at £1.7 million.
