Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has achieved a significant milestone by securing a position in the top 10 educational institutions in India, as per the 2023 London-based Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings for 2023. The university has improved its ranking from 160th in the previous year to 128th in Asia, a jump of 32 places. JMI accomplished this feat by performing exceptionally well in various parameters considered for the assessment of its teaching quality, research proficiency, knowledge transferability, and international perspectives.

The Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings surveyed 669 universities from 31 countries and evaluated them on the same 13 performance parameters as The World University Rankings. The evaluation process powered by THE Asia University Rankings recalibrated these performance parameters to factor in Asian institutions’ unique traits. The assessment aimed to provide comprehensive and balanced comparisons among the participating universities.

This achievement not only reflects the hard work of JMI’s teachers, non-teaching staff, and other stakeholders but also highlights the university’s continually evolving performance both nationally and internationally. JMI’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Najma Akhtar, praised the achievement and expressed her satisfaction with the dedication and perseverance of the JMI fraternity. She said, Our efforts have been recognized internationally, and I hope that the university will continue its endeavors to improve its performance further in the coming years.

Apart from improving its position in THE Asian Rankings, JMI has consistently improved its national and international rankings over the last few years. The ranking from the Ministry of Education’s (MoE) National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) – India Rankings-2023 places JMI in the third rank among universities and 12th in the overall category, a massive climb of 13 ranks. JMI also improved its global position from the 601-800 to the 501-600 ranking bands in the THE World University Rankings-2023. In addition, it improved its position from 203 to 186 in the London-based QS University Rankings Agency’s QS Asia University Rankings-2022.

JMI’s success confirms its commitment to academic excellence and the fulfillment of its mission to be a world-class educational institution. The university’s contributions to education and research continue to reflect its vision of enhancing the value of higher education and seeking knowledge that creates a positive impact on society.
