A 45-year-old man set himself on fire inside the superintendent of police’s office in Shahjahanpur after an alleged dispute with a local villager. The man, identified as Tahir Ali, suffered severe burns and is currently in critical condition at the city’s government medical college. The incident took place on Tuesday, prompting SSP Shahjahanpur Ashok Kumar Meena to launch an investigation into the matter.
According to police sources, Ali was apparently influenced by a local journalist to take drastic action to pressure the authorities in his favor. A video clip capturing the horrific incident showed Ali running towards the SP office engulfed in flames, desperately crying out for help. Quick-thinking officers rushed to his aid, using blankets to extinguish the fire.
Ali claimed that he had a month-long dispute with a local troublemaker named Umesh, who allegedly seized his minivan. Despite filing multiple complaints with the police, Ali asserted that no action was taken to recover his vehicle, leaving him in distress. SSP Meena clarified that the dispute was centered on the minivan’s ownership and assured that an investigation is underway to bring clarity to the situation. Both parties involved have an ongoing legal case regarding the matter.
As the investigation unfolds, the community is left in shock over this tragic turn of events, highlighting the need for a swift resolution to disputes to prevent such incidents in the future. The authorities are working diligently to piece together the events leading up to the self-immolation, emphasizing the importance of addressing grievances through legal channels to avoid further tragedy.
