A 37-year-old private security guard was charred to death after his bedding reportedly caught fire apparently from a ‘beedi’ late Saturday night.
The incident was reported from Kuihar locality under the limits of Sen Paschim Para police station of the district. Police identified the deceased as Babbu alias Brijesh (37), resident of Barkheda village of Hamirpur.
Dharmendra Singh, resident of Gujaini, along with Sandeep Singh of Barra, does plotting work in Kuihar locality. About six months ago, he had hired Babbu alias Brijesh, to guard the area where the plotting was underway.
According to the police, Babbu lived alone in a room built in the plotting site. On Saturday night, Babbu lit a bonfire in the room and consumed liquor.
After getting drunk, while smoking, he fell asleep on the bed. Later, the fire broke out due to burning of beedi and his bedding caught fire.
The police sent the body for autopsy.
The police and the forensic team, which had arrived in the morning after receiving information from the villagers, recovered an empty liquor bottle and pieces of burnt ‘beedis’ from the incident site.
Police station in-charge Rakesh Singh said the watchman apparently died in the fire mishap. Action will be taken on the basis of a post mortem report and complaint of family members, he added.
