Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) workers in Patna were spotted flaunting the party symbol, a lantern, on the streets ahead of the Opposition leaders’ meeting. A dwarf man with a lantern mounted on his helmet was seen sitting on the roof of a car, adorned with numerous lanterns and slogans pertaining to RJD on its windshield. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha supporters also gathered outside the Patna airport to welcome Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren, who arrived in Patna to attend the Opposition meeting.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi will address party workers at the Congress office in Patna, prior to the Opposition meeting. Bihar State Congress office Sadakat Ashram has been covered with posters and banners of Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and other Congress leaders.
Opposition leaders from across the country have convened in Patna to develop a strategy to counter the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. The Opposition chose Patna as the venue because it represents the 1974 call for total revolution by Jayaprakash Narayan, which overthrew Indira Gandhi’s majority government.
The meeting, hosted by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, aims to develop a consensus on forging a united Opposition front to take on the BJP. The Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) president, Jayant Chaudhary, has decided to skip the conclave due to a pre-decided family program; however, he hopes that the meeting will be an important milestone in the path of opposition unity. The Janata Dal (United), which is hosting the conference, said that Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati had not been invited to the event. The meeting would be attended by leaders of parties opposed to BJP.
The meeting aims to bring together the various opposition parties to create a united front capable of defeating the ruling BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The event is highly anticipated, given the opposition’s recent struggles and defeats.
