All five members of the crew aboard the Titan submersible have been confirmed dead after parts of the vessel were found near the wreck of Titanic. The submersible, operated by OceanGate Expeditions, vanished on 18 June after contact was lost on its descent from the surface of the Atlantic Ocean to the wreckage site. Rear Admiral John Mauger of the US Coast Guard confirmed at a press conference that extensive debris had been found in the area and that the vessel’s pressure chamber had collapsed catastrophically. Former Royal Navy submariner David Russell stated that the implosion would have caused instantaneous death for those on board. Divers will seek to retrieve as much of the submersible as possible in order to determine the nature of the implosion.
