A man convicted for a deadly attack on a German synagogue has been given an additional seven years in prison for attempting to escape. Stephan B. shot and killed two people during his failed attack in 2019, leading to a life sentence. While in a Magdeburg prison, he used a homemade firearm to take two staff members hostage in a bid for freedom. The judge described his substantial criminal energy and noted his lack of empathy. Despite being deemed psychologically disturbed but fit for trial, the defendant remains uncommunicative and untreatable, showing little interest in anything but escaping.
