Candidates running for office in the upcoming March 23 election must submit their announcements to The Zachary Advocate and Plainsman by March 1. The announcements should be limited to 500 words and must include the candidate’s age, education, and employment details. Candidates are also encouraged to include a mug shot as a jpg attachment for publication.
In other news, Charlee’s Angels will be hosting a paint party on March 16 at Oakwood Village Assisted Living in Zachary. Participants will paint spoke guard covers for residents’ wheelchairs in Zachary nursing homes. Refreshments will be provided, and attendees are asked to bring a water bottle or drink.
Additionally, a Hippity Hop Spring Shop event will take place on March 15 at The Rock Church in Zachary. More than 30 vendors will be present, and photo opportunities with a baby kangaroo or the Easter bunny will be available. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own cameras and donations for Thread of Hope, a charity supporting victims of human trafficking.
Children and adults with disabilities are invited to participate in Easter activities and photos with the Easter bunny at BREC’s Zachary Community Park on March 31. The event is free for all ages with cognitive and sensory processing disorders. Pre-registration is required for this event.
Household Hazardous Material collection day is scheduled for March 2 at LSU Touchdown Village, South Quad Drive. Only East Baton Rouge Parish residents can participate, and a valid ID is required. No commercial waste will be accepted during the event.
The Zachary High Ag Spring Fest will take place on March 30, featuring games, a petting zoo, face painting, ag crafts, Easter egg hunts, and more. Photos with the Easter bunny will also be available for attendees.
Every Friday until Easter, a fish fry will be held at the Zachary City Hall parking lot. Orders of 10 or more can be delivered upon request, with proceeds benefiting the Fire and Police Memorial Fund.

The Zachary Really Hot Air Balloon Festival is seeking artwork submissions for flyers, advertising, and T-shirts. The deadline to submit original artwork for consideration is March 22.
