After a seven-year hiatus, the civic body hosted its long-awaited flower and baby show at Nehru Rose Garden on Saturday however it met with a tepid response.

There were very few participants in various categories of competitions although the officials had expected a huge crowd. Now, they are looking forward to hosting more people on Sunday when there will be baby show, rangoli competition, drawing competition and many more activities. The officials blamed the ongoing school exams for the poor response.

The MC officials had already conducted checks at over 100 parks being maintained by the park management committees and selected the winners. Similarly, for the flower competition, a total of 98 entries were received out of which 34 were from government departments/institutions, 47 from amateur and 17 from schools and colleges.

Aam Aadmi Party MLA Gurpreet Gogi inaugurated the flower and baby show in the afternoon.

Many people strolling in the Rose Garden claimed to be unaware about the event and the activities going on around. A visitor, Sunita Sharma was seen asking others about the event. She said, I had come to the Rose Garden as per my routine but was surprised to see flowers on display. On inquiring, I found out that a baby show is scheduled for Sunday so I will bring my daughter and make her participate in the event.

Meanwhile, some residents were seen clicking pictures with the flowers on display however they expressed disapointed over the park not being full of flowers.

Another visitor Shifali Jain said, There were less flowers in the garden near the site where flower show was organised. The flower beds were not really full of roses. Though some are still there but it would have had more impact if the Rose garden was in full bloom.

However Kripal Singh, junior engineer of MC horticulture branch, said, First of all, the event has been held after a long gap of seven years. Secondly, exams are going on in city schools. We are sure that there will be more crowd on Sunday as the prize distribution ceremony will be held then.
