MOSCOW, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) — The opening ceremony of Games of the Future 2024, an international cybersports event, was held on Wednesday in the Russian city of Kazan.
The inaugural event brought together over 2,000 athletes from about 270 teams around the globe, who will compete in 21 different sport disciplines, according to the organizer.
Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the opening ceremony, calling the event a gift from Russia to the global sports family.
He noted that the games were free from political considerations, any types of discrimination and double standards.
Games of the Future 2024, slated from Feb. 21 to March 3, are divided into five categories: sports, tactics, strategy, technology and speed, incorporating elements of e-sports and VR/AR technology, according to the event organizer.
