A murder probe has been launched days after an Indian restaurant manager was killed in a collision while riding his bicycle in Berkshire, England. Vignesh Raman, 38, was struck down by a motorist on Addington Road on Valentine’s Day at around 11:50 pm. Police said that the cyclist was reportedly attacked by the driver who fled the scene. The cyclist, later identified as Raman, was pronounced dead at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. A report published in The Times of India said that Raman was an Indian citizen from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
Following an investigation by Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit, a man has been charged with murder in Reading. Shazeb Khalid, aged 24, of no fixed abode was charged with one count of murder today (20/2), Thames Valley Police said in a statement.
Khalid was later arrested on suspicion of murder on February 19. Police said the seven men arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender have been released on bail. Khalid is scheduled to appear at Reading Magistrates Court on February 21.
Earlier, Thames Valley Police had stressed the importance of eyewitness accounts and urged individuals with CCTV or dash-cam footage to assist in the probe.
