NVIDIA Introduces CUDA Quantum Platform at Pawsey Supercomputing Centre, Australia

SYDNEY, Australia, Feb. 18, 2024 – Nvidia has partnered with Australia’s Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre to advance quantum computing research through the addition of the revolutionary NVIDIA CUDA Quantum platform. This partnership marks a significant step forward in the exploration and utilization of quantum computing technology, with the aim of driving breakthroughs in various scientific domains. Pawsey researchers will harness the power of the NVIDIA Grace Hopper Superchips to propel their work in quantum computing, enabling them to push the boundaries of what’s possible in scientific exploration.

The integration of CUDA Quantum at the Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre will provide researchers with a hybrid quantum computing platform equipped with powerful simulation tools and the ability to program hybrid CPU, GPU, and QPU systems. This technology, coupled with the NVIDIA cuQuantum software development kit, will offer optimized libraries and tools to accelerate quantum computing workflows.

With the potential to generate $2.5 billion in annual revenue and create 10,000 new jobs by 2040, quantum computing holds immense promise for Australia’s scientific community. By leveraging the NVIDIA Grace Hopper Superchips, researchers at Pawsey will be able to conduct high-fidelity and scalable quantum simulations, paving the way for significant advancements in quantum-integrated supercomputing.

The deployment of the NVIDIA Grace Hopper platform at Pawsey will facilitate quantum workloads and enable the development of hybrid algorithms that intelligently distribute computations between classical and quantum components, thereby enhancing computing efficiency. Through this collaboration, Pawsey aims to explore quantum machine learning, chemistry simulations, radio astronomy, financial analysis, bioinformatics, and specialized quantum simulators.

By deploying eight nodes based on NVIDIA MGX modular architecture and GH200 Superchips, Pawsey will eliminate the traditional CPU-to-GPU PCIe connection, significantly enhancing bandwidth and performance. This technological breakthrough will empower researchers to tackle the world’s most complex problems and accelerate scientific discoveries across various disciplines.
