The Indian government is proposing a unique identity system for startups to monitor their progress and support their development. Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh believes a monitoring mechanism is necessary given that the number of startups in India has surpassed 100,000. A presentation prepared in collaboration with the government’s think tank, the National Institution for Transforming India, has identified a lack of innovation, skilled workers and fund-raising as roadblocks to some of the startups’ growth. Singh has recommended each startup be assigned a unique ID to facilitate monitoring and finding ways to sustain growth.
