Mark Lyall’s heartfelt mission to support cancer patients

Mark Lyall, a resident of the Eldon Care Centre in Paraparaumu, is on a mission to support cancer patients by participating in the Shave for a Cure event. After growing out his hair, including his facial hair, for about a year, Mark is now gearing up to shave it all off on February 28, with the goal of raising funds for kids with cancer.

In his efforts to make a difference, Mark has chosen to donate the money he raises to Leukaemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand. He plans to completely shave his head and face, except for his eyebrows, which he has decided to keep intact after a previous experience of shaving them.

This will be Mark’s third time participating in Shave for a Cure. In the past, he has managed to raise $1000 and $600, respectively. This year, his goal is set at $800 on his dedicated Shave for a Cure page. Already, he has received $170 in online donations, along with an additional $70 to $80 from a donation jar placed on the front desk of the Eldon Care Centre.

Mark’s passion for supporting cancer charities stems from personal loss. He tragically lost his brother, Charlie, and father, Gordon, to cancer. Regardless of the type of cancer, Mark firmly believes that every form of the disease takes lives. To honor his loved ones and fight against this life-threatening illness, he not only participates in Shave for a Cure but also regularly donates to various cancer charities, including the Breast Cancer Foundation and others.

The Lyall family’s dedication to supporting cancer charities doesn’t end with Mark. His brother, David, has also made significant contributions by participating in the Walking Stars event in Wellington. David not only completed the event but also emerged as the winner, raising over $8000 for the cause.

Mark’s excitement about the upcoming shave is evident. He admitted that he is tired of his long hair and is genuinely looking forward to getting rid of it. He’s not worried about the temporary change in appearance, simply stating, it’s going to grow back.

It is inspiring to see individuals like Mark Lyall dedicating their time and efforts to supporting cancer patients. Their selflessness and commitment to making a difference in the lives of those affected is truly commendable. If you would like to contribute to Mark’s cause, you can donate through his Shave for a Cure page.

Together, we can all play a part in supporting cancer patients and their families, providing them with hope, love, and much-needed funds for research and treatment. Let’s stand with Mark in his heartfelt mission to make a positive impact in the lives of those fighting against cancer.
