According to recent reports, there has been a significant increase in the number of children having mid-day meals in schools across Assam. The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, informed that in the last year alone, there has been a 10% increase in the number of children partaking in mid-day meals across the state.

The CM took to Twitter to share the news, mentioning his great conversations with Mina, Om, and Krishna over a delicious mid-day meal. He also inaugurated a new school, where he reviewed issues related to Mid-Day Meal (MDM), free textbooks, uniforms, water, electricity bills, and other amenities.

Recently, the newly-appointed principals and teachers deployed in 19 new Tea Garden Adarsha Vidyalayas of the state interacted with the CM. During this program held in Guwahati, the Assam Chief Minister handed over cheques of Rs 1 lakh to each school as a contingency fund, while also appealing for their dedicated service.

In his statement, the CM acknowledged the decision to start 19 Adarsha High Schools in 19 tea garden areas of the state this year. The appointment of 130 teachers for these schools was given by the government. “Around 2600 students have enrolled in these schools, with an average of approximately 150 students per school in Class 6 & Class 9. Earlier we started 96 schools and this year we will start 19 schools,” he explained.

Additionally, the Lok Nirman Vibhag will soon start work on 100 more schools to create an environment of secondary education in tea garden areas that was not visible earlier. The chief minister also stated that eight teachers have been appointed in each school.
