A Co Antrim woman who was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor as a child has defied the odds by winning a prestigious British Education Award. Lauren Monaghan, from Ballymoney, was told by doctors to give up on her studies, but she persisted and went on to obtain a degree in computer science from Ulster University. Despite facing setbacks and health issues, Monaghan’s determination and academic achievements earned her a Special Award at a ceremony in Manchester. Her story serves as a reminder of the challenges young people face and the need for understanding and support. Other young scholars from Northern Ireland were also honored at the event, showcasing their achievements in sports, apprenticeships, and mathematics.
