A 51-year-old labourer was tragically beaten to death by his co-workers at an under construction site of the Godrej company in the Sector 106 area of Gurugram. The victim, identified as Avesh Alam, hailed from Bihar and worked as a labourer at the site. The incident took place at the labour camp where he resided along with his fellow workers.
According to a complaint filed by Mohammad Ubed Alam, another labourer from the same village in Bihar, the altercation occurred around 9:00 pm on Sunday night. Ubed stated that he emerged from his room upon hearing a commotion and witnessed Shiv Narayan, the in-charge of the labour camp, along with four to five other labourers, engaged in a fight with the victim. The situation quickly escalated as they began assaulting Avesh and later took him to his room. Tragically, when Ubed entered the room sometime later, he discovered that Avesh had succumbed to his injuries. The police were immediately notified.
Subsequently, an FIR was registered against Shiv Narayan and the other perpetrators under sections 302 (murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code at the Rajendra Park police station. The police spokesperson, Subhash Boken, confirmed the registration of the FIR and informed that efforts were underway to apprehend the suspects. The deceased’s body has been entrusted to the mortuary, and his family has been informed about the tragic incident.
The shocking incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and highlights the need for stricter monitoring and security measures at construction sites. The murder of Avesh Alam is yet another disturbing incident in a series of violent clashes in Gurugram. Earlier this week, a clash over parking in Baliyawas resulted in one fatality and another person getting injured, leading to the arrest of two individuals. Additionally, just a few days ago, a 21-year-old youth was stabbed to death in the Ravi Nagar area over a dispute related to a love affair.
The authorities must take swift action in apprehending the culprits involved in the brutal attack on Avesh Alam. They should also evaluate the existing security measures at construction sites and ensure the safety of all workers. It is imperative to create a secure environment to prevent further instances of violence and tragedy in Gurugram.
The incident serves as a grim reminder of the challenges faced by labourers in the construction industry, with their vulnerability to disputes and conflicts that can turn fatal. The tragic death of Avesh Alam demands urgent attention and action to prevent such senseless acts of violence in the future.
