A Sue Ryder service providing palliative care at home for South Oxfordshire families is set to expand, thanks to the support of the Anthony (Tony) Lane Foundation. The night service, offered by the Sue Ryder Palliative Care Hub, has already provided 1,310 hours of care since its launch last summer. With the additional funding from the foundation, the service aims to increase the number of hours available, offering much-needed support to more local people.
The Sue Ryder team works through the night, from 10pm to 7am, providing expert care to ensure families can rest easy knowing their loved one is compassionately looked after. Lynne Leach, a member of the night care team, expressed the importance of the support the service provides, stating, When the door opens for the first time and you are standing there, that’s when the care starts. It’s their turn to become a relative again. It’s time for us to be the carers.
Sylvia Thomas, Head of Quality and Clinical Services at Sue Ryder Palliative Care Hub South Oxfordshire, highlighted the significance of the foundation’s support during a time when the cost of care delivery is increasing. Thomas expressed gratitude for the foundation’s continued support and emphasized the positive impact it has on the families they care for.
