Thousands of Toyota cars recalled due to potentially fatal flaw

Thousands of drivers are being urged to return their cars after a potentially fatal defect was discovered. Up to 9000 Toyota Yaris and Yaris Hybrid models are being recalled by the manufacturer across Australia.

The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts issued the recall for both petrol and hybrid models created between 2020 and 2023. There are concerns the steering could fail due to a durability issue. It could cause the front lower suspension arm to develop cracks and eventually corrode when exposed to road snow melting agents.

This could cause the suspension to collapse and detach from the vehicle, Toyota Australia said in its recall notice. As a result, the vehicle may experience a sudden loss of steering control.

The vehicles included in the recall – 8815 in total – were manufactured between 2020 and 2023 and include both petrol and hybrid versions of the Yaris Ascent Sport, Yaris SX, and Yaris ZR.

Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Toyota in writing and are asked to make an appointment to have the front lower suspension arm replaced, free of charge.

Car owners can call Toyota’s support line on 1800 987 366 or email recallsupport@toyota.dataresponse.com.au for more information.

This recall comes as a serious concern for the thousands of drivers who are now at risk of driving vehicles with a potentially fatal flaw. The steering issue, which affects Toyota Yaris and Yaris Hybrid models manufactured between 2020 and 2023, could lead to a collapse of the suspension and a sudden loss of steering control.

The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts has issued a recall notice, urging drivers to return their vehicles to Toyota for the necessary repairs. The defect is believed to be caused by a durability issue in the front lower suspension arm, which can develop cracks and corrode when exposed to road snow melting agents.

Toyota Australia has assured affected customers that the front lower suspension arm will be replaced free of charge. However, the seriousness of the issue cannot be understated, as a sudden loss of steering control poses a significant risk to the safety of drivers and other road users.

Owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted directly by Toyota and are advised to make an appointment as soon as possible to have the necessary repairs carried out. Toyota has established a support line and email address for customers to seek further information and assistance.

The recall affects a total of 8815 vehicles, comprising both petrol and hybrid versions of the Yaris Ascent Sport, Yaris SX, and Yaris ZR. The recall notice underscores the importance of promptly addressing the identified flaw to ensure the safety of all Toyota drivers.

With the recall in motion, Toyota is taking the necessary steps to rectify the potentially fatal flaw and prioritize the well-being of its customers. It is crucial for affected drivers to heed the recall notice and take immediate action to have their vehicles repaired. By promptly addressing the issue, Toyota aims to prevent any accidents or injuries resulting from the loss of steering control.

Drivers are urged to reach out to Toyota’s support line or email address for further information and to schedule their vehicle repairs. By addressing this issue swiftly and effectively, Toyota is demonstrating its commitment to the safety and satisfaction of its customers.

This recall serves as a reminder of the importance of regular vehicle maintenance and prompt attention to any recalls that may arise. Prioritizing safety on the road is of paramount importance, and drivers should not hesitate to take action when alerted to potential defects in their vehicles.
