A man driving with an open container of alcohol was injured in a crash that occurred on Friday morning, February 9th, in rural North Dakota. The incident took place approximately 10 miles east of Bowdon. According to a report from the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the collision transpired when a 1999 Kenworth semi truck, hauling a trailer, entered Highway 200 from 45th Avenue Northeast and headed west. The driver of the Kenworth, 67-year-old Kenneth Risovi from Harvey, was wearing a seatbelt and escaped the accident physically unscathed. However, the same cannot be said for Eric Hvinden, a 44-year-old resident of Maddock, who failed to notice the Kenworth and ended up crashing into its trailer with his 2007 Chevrolet Silverado.
Despite the severity of the collision, the injuries sustained by Hvinden were determined to be non-life-threatening. However, it was noted that Hvinden, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, faces misdemeanor charges for driving under suspension and was cited for having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.
Emergency services swiftly responded to the crash, with personnel from the Wells County Sheriff’s Office, Carrington Police Department, Bowdon Fire Department, Sykeston Fire Department, and Carrington Ambulance all attending the scene. Following the incident, Hvinden was transported to a hospital in Carrington before being transferred to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo for further medical care.
Considering the safety implications of this incident, it serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible driving. The authorities advise all motorists to avoid any form of distraction while on the road, including the consumption of alcohol. Wearing seatbelts can also significantly reduce the risk of injury or death in the event of a collision. The North Dakota Highway Patrol encourages all drivers to adhere to traffic laws and ensure their vehicles are free from potential hazards.
By reporting on this incident, we hope to raise awareness of the consequences associated with impaired driving and to foster a culture of responsible behavior on the roads.
