Bangladesh’s cricket team has been met with an unexpected hurdle ahead of their One Day International (ODI) series against Afghanistan. During their practice session at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, all three of the team’s openers – Captain Tamim Iqbal, Naim Sheikh, and Liton Das – were hit with injury scares.
Despite the team management assuring fans that there is nothing to worry about, the simultaneous setbacks have caused concern among supporters. Tamim Iqbal, who had been unable to participate in the one-off test against Afghanistan due to a lower back problem, suffered a recurrence of the same injury during a fielding exercise session. He immediately left the ground for the dressing room.
Liton Das was hit with a stray delivery while he was batting, causing him some discomfort. The back-up opener was seen speaking with the physio before he too left the batting session. Meanwhile, Naim Sheikh was struck above the knee by a delivery but showed no signs of pain and continued batting.
The simultaneous setbacks have raised concerns about the fitness and preparation of the Bangladeshi team ahead of their series against Afghanistan. While the team management has stressed that the injuries are not major, it remains to be seen whether the trio will be fit enough to take the field in the upcoming matches. Bangladesh has struggled with injuries to key players in the recent past, making it all the more important for the team to take extra precautions and manage their fitness ahead of the important ODI series.
