Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], February 9 (ANI): NV Subhash, the grandson of former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao, expressed his gratitude to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that Rao would be posthumously conferred with the prestigious Bharat Ratna award. Subhash, who sounded emotional, thanked the BJP Telangana for honoring his grandfather with India’s highest civilian honor.
For us, it is a matter of pride and honor that at this crucial juncture, where Narendra Modi has become the national leader and the leader of the whole world, he has constantly recognized exceptional individuals through awards like Bharat Ratna and Padma Vibhushan. I feel very emotional at this point because we have been expecting that the Bharat Ratna would be delayed. As a family member, I also thank the BJP Telangana for their efforts, making this a grand success and a dream come true, Subhash expressed.
Subhash also blamed the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government for making Narasimha Rao a scapegoat for the Congress party’s failures. He specifically criticized the Gandhi family’s role in tarnishing his grandfather’s legacy during their tenure from 2004 to 2014. The Gandhi family was very influential in making Narasimha Rao a scapegoat for the failures of the Congress party, he stated.
Surabhi Vani Devi, Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) and daughter of PV Narasimha Rao, echoed Subhash’s sentiments and termed the Bharat Ratna announcement as a great recognition. She applauded the BJP for honoring her father, highlighting the fact that although Rao had been associated with the Congress party, the BJP recognized his contributions.
This is a very happy moment. Great recognition. I am so excited. If you go through the days–5 years from 1991 to 1996–that was a very crucial time in Indian history, but he has solved the problems. It is surprising that Rao was not in BJP, from the beginning he has worked with the Congress but BJP has recognized him with Bharat Ratna. This is a great moment. We must appreciate, Surabhi said.
Another prominent BJP leader, K Kavitha, also expressed her joy at Narasimha Rao being conferred with the Bharat Ratna. PV Narasimha Rao Garu is the son of the soil of Telangana…We have installed PV Narasimha Rao Garu’s statue in places like Australia…Today it (Bharat Ratna) is being given, we are very happy, she shared.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while announcing the Bharat Ratna recipients, praised Narasimha Rao’s extensive service to India in various capacities. Delighted to share that our former Prime Minister, PV Narasimha Rao Garu, will be honored with the Bharat Ratna. As a distinguished scholar and statesman, Narasimha Rao Garu served India extensively in various capacities. His visionary leadership was instrumental in making India economically advanced, laying a solid foundation for the country’s prosperity and growth, the PM stated.
Born in Karimnagar, Telangana, on June 28, 1921, Narasimha Rao held several important portfolios during his political career. He served as the Minister of Law and Information, Law and Endowments, Health and Medicine, and Education in the Government of Andhra Pradesh. He was also the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee.
Rao is widely credited with introducing significant economic reforms in India, particularly dismantling the License Raj that had hindered the country’s progress. During his tenure, he appointed Manmohan Singh as the Finance Minister, who implemented a series of economic measures to lift India out of an economic crisis.
Narasimha Rao, a six-time Member of Parliament, passed away at the age of 83 in 2004. Alongside Rao, Chaudhary Charan Singh and MS Swaminathan will also receive the Bharat Ratna in recognition of their exceptional contributions.
