Today, an Odisha vigilance raid was conducted on Amin, Nirmalendu Kabi, in the office of Tahsildar, Saintala, Dist- Balangir. The raid was carried out by the Odisha Vigilance who apprehended the Amin while accepting a bribe.
According to reliable sources, the Amin was caught by the Odisha Vigilance demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 8,000/- from a complainant. It is alleged that the bribe was demanded in exchange for the demarcation of the complainant’s land, as ordered by the Court of Tahsildar.
The complainant had initially applied for the demarcation in July 2023 before the Tahsildar of Saintala, requesting the necessary orders to be passed to the concerned Amin for the demarcation of his land in accordance with the rules of the R&DM department, Government of Odisha.
Subsequently, on January 16, 2024, the Tahsildar, Saintala issued the orders to demarcate the land of the complainant. However, Nirmalendu Kabi, the Amin, upon receiving the orders, deliberately delayed the process by failing to execute the work. When the complainant approached Kabi for the demarcation of his land, Kabi allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs. 8,000/- in order to carry out the demarcation.
Left with no other option, the complainant reached out to the Vigilance Authority and reported the issue. Acting on the complaint, the Vigilance team set a trap and apprehended Nirmalendu Kabi, the Amin, today while he was accepting the demanded bribe of Rs. 8,000/- from the complainant.
The entire bribe amount has been recovered from Kabi and seized as evidence. In addition to the trap, simultaneous searches are being conducted at two locations linked to Nirmalendu Kabi to investigate possible assets acquired through corrupt means.
Following these developments, a case has been filed against Nirmalendu Kabi, the Amin, under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended by the P.C. Amendment Act, 2018. The investigation into the accused Amin is currently underway, and further details and updates regarding the matter are awaited.
This incident sheds light on the deep-rooted problem of corruption within the bureaucracy and highlights the importance of continued efforts to tackle such issues. The Odisha Vigilance Department’s swift action in apprehending the Amin demonstrates a commitment to upholding the integrity of the government system and ensuring justice for the common citizens.
It is crucial that cases like these be thoroughly investigated and perpetrators be held accountable to restore public trust in administrative bodies. The vigilant role played by the complainant in reporting the bribery attempt showcases the power of individual citizens in fighting against corrupt practices.
The Odisha Vigilance Department is expected to continue its investigation into the matter to uncover any further instances of corruption and misconduct. Meanwhile, it is important for the public to remain vigilant and come forward with any information or complaints regarding corrupt practices that undermine the welfare of society.
