Canberra [Australia], February 6 (ANI): Indian High Commissioner Gopal Baglay met with Australian Member of Parliament Andrew Charlton, who also serves as the chair of the India-Australia Parliamentary Friendship Group, to discuss the robust bilateral relations between the two nations. The leaders focused on various aspects of cooperation such as education, trade, investment, and people-to-people ties. They also explored opportunities to enhance parliamentary interaction and acknowledged the significant role played by the Indian diaspora in strengthening bilateral relations.
During the meeting, Baglay and Charlton expressed their satisfaction with the existing ties between India and Australia and discussed avenues for further collaboration. In previous discussions, Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar engaged with Australian High Commissioner to India Philip Green to deliberate on the bilateral partnership between the two countries. Jaishankar also expressed his enthusiasm for the Indian Ocean Conference 2024, which will be held in Perth later this year.
The Indian Ocean Conference 2024, hosted by Australia, will serve as a platform to address critical challenges faced by the region and seek practical solutions. Last year, both India and Australia held the India-Australia 2+2 Defence and Foreign Ministerial Dialogue, showcasing their commitment to deepening strategic cooperation. The dialogue was attended by Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles, and Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs Penny Wong.
With a focus on the multifaceted bilateral ties between India and Australia, the meeting between Gopal Baglay and Andrew Charlton highlighted the commitment to strengthening cooperation and facilitating a prosperous future for both nations.
