Derek Hough’s Wife, Hayley Erbert, Breaks Silence Following Skull Surgery
As previously reported, Derek Hough announced that his wife, Hayley Erbert, had undergone emergency surgery for a cranial hematoma and subsequent cranioplasty. While Derek has openly discussed the ordeal, Hayley remained silent until now.
In a recent social media post, Hayley shared details about her journey and expressed gratitude for the progress she has made since the medical emergency.
It’s been quite some time since we’ve been on here, for good reason, Derek began before Hayley spoke out.
Addressing her followers, Hayley stated, Here I am today. It has been quite the journey. There’s been so much that has happened in two months. Lots of emotions. All the things. To this day, I still have really good days and really bad days. Emotionally and physically. But I’m doing so much better every single day. Like, truly, there is so much progress every day. I’m so grateful for that.
In December, Derek Hough revealed that Hayley had been hospitalized for a cranial hematoma, which caused pressure on her brain. She underwent an emergency craniectomy, followed by a cranioplasty to repair her skull.
Cranioplasty is commonly performed in cases of traumatic injury or to correct birth defects. During the procedure, irregularities in the skull are repaired using bone grafts or synthetic material.
Derek commended Hayley’s resilience and strength, stating, Her perseverance, her acceptance of the whole situation, her strength, it’s been remarkable to witness firsthand. She really is a miracle, and it’s still a journey.
Hayley expressed her gratitude for the love and support she received during her recovery. In a video, she said, I remember just looking at him [Derek] and just saying, ‘You didn’t even have to tell me that, I can feel it.’ I genuinely felt that through my body. I felt it in my heart. I felt it in my soul. So thank you all so much for your messages, your love, your life, your prayers.
Reflecting on her experience, Hayley revealed the physical changes she has undergone, saying, I have a new scar. A new sack of fluid on the side of my face, which is supposed to eventually go away. I also got a new skull, also a new outlook on life.
She concluded by urging others to cherish their loved ones, emphasizing the preciousness of life and the importance of spending quality time together.
Hayley’s return to social media marks an important step in her recovery as she continues to heal both physically and emotionally. Her story serves as a reminder of the strength of the human spirit and the power of love and support during challenging times.
As Hayley Erbert and Derek Hough navigate this ongoing journey, their fans and followers can only hope for continued progress and a brighter future ahead.
