A verbal altercation on a Metrobus in Northwest D.C. escalated into a physical assault and stabbing on Sunday afternoon, resulting in two men being taken into custody. At around noon, the incident unfolded aboard a 70 bus near 5929 Georgia Avenue, NW.

According to police, DeAngelo Reed, 36, initiated an argument with Kelvin Kelly, 54, shortly after boarding the bus. The dispute turned violent when Reed assaulted Kelly, who then retaliated by stabbing Reed.

Reed was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to his head. He has been charged with assault for initiating the confrontation. Kelly, on the other hand, was arrested in connection to the stabbing. The Metro Transit Police have successfully recovered the knife used in the altercation.

Eyewitnesses on the scene provided additional details about the incident. One passenger, who wishes to remain anonymous, stated, I was sitting at the back of the bus when I heard a heated argument between two men. Things escalated quickly, and before I knew it, there was a physical fight and then a stabbing. It was really scary.

The passengers on the Metrobus were immediately evacuated and temporarily detained while the police conducted their investigation. The bus service resumed after a thorough examination of the crime scene.

Metro Transit Police Chief, Jack Gordon, commended the prompt response of the officers involved in resolving the situation. He expressed, Our officers acted swiftly to apprehend the individuals responsible for this violent incident. We are thankful for the cooperation of the passengers and witnesses in helping us gather crucial evidence. The safety and security of our passengers remain our top priority.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining peace and resolving conflicts peacefully. Metrobus officials encourage passengers to report any suspicious activity or conflicts to the bus driver or transit police immediately.

The suspects are set to appear in court next week. If convicted, they could face severe penalties, including imprisonment. The investigation is ongoing, and police are reviewing surveillance footage from the bus and nearby areas to gather further evidence.

Concerns about safety on public transportation have been raised recently, with incidents like this unsettling passengers. However, authorities assure the public that they are committed to ensuring a secure and peaceful commuting experience.

As the legal process proceeds, Metrobus users and residents hope that incidents like these can be prevented through increased vigilance and efforts to promote a culture of respect and tolerance amongst commuters. The Metro Transit Police continue to enhance their presence on buses and at transit hubs to deter and address any potential disruptions.
