NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 5 – The court has now set on motion the hearing of the extradition proceedings against a Kenyan wanted in the US to face murder trial.
Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina confirmed that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and defense counsel have complied with his orders by filing their respective documents including submissions.
Prosecution counsel Vincent Munda told the court that he has filed an affidavit opposing bail or bond against Kevin Kinyanjui Kangethe.
He said that the DPP having received a request from the secretary of state for surrender of the fugitive he subsequently filed extradition proceedings which are now pending.
Kangethe is already being held at Muthaiga police station on the order issued by senior principal magistrate Zainab Abdul and will remain there for a period of 30 days.
