Sieng Chanthea to rejoin Boeung Ket after Qatari club loan

Sieng Chanthea, the 21-year-old Cambodian forward, is set to return to his former team Boeung Ket after a seven-month loan spell with Qatari second-division side Al Shahaniya SC. This news was confirmed by Boeung Ket’s general manager, Be Makara, who stated that Chanthea will start training with his old teammates soon.

Makara revealed that everything went well during Chanthea’s time with Al Shahaniya, but the player struggled to adapt to the Qatari lifestyle, including the local food and weather. Chanthea expressed his desire to come back to Boeung Ket early this year.

Although the Boeung Ket management team encouraged Chanthea to fulfill his contract obligations until July, the player felt unable to wait that long. Consequently, an agreement was reached between Boeung Ket and Al Shahaniya SC, allowing Chanthea to return to his previous club.

After participating in the 32nd SEA Games in May last year, Chanthea joined Al Shahaniya SC on a one-year loan contract. However, he faced limited playing opportunities, mostly appearing as a substitute and scoring only once throughout his time at the Qatari club.

Chanthea has since returned to Cambodia and was recently seen attending a match between Boeung Ket and Siem Reap FC in the Hun Sen Cup. However, according to Sok Heng, head of media and public relations of the Cambodian Premier League (CPL), Chanthea will not be eligible to play for Boeung Ket in the remaining matches of the current CPL season. He will have to wait until the start of the new season later this year.

Fans of Cambodian football, particularly those who support Boeung Ket, are excited about Chanthea’s return. They believe that his presence will greatly enhance the team’s performance and competitiveness.

Chanthea’s experience in Qatar marks a significant moment in Cambodian football, as he becomes one of the first Cambodian players to have played professionally overseas. His return signifies another milestone for the sport in Cambodia.

Born in Cambodia, Chanthea attended the Bati Youth Football Academy organized by the Football Federation of Cambodia. In 2020, he signed with Boeung Ket’s senior team.

As Chanthea resumes his career with Boeung Ket, football enthusiasts look forward to witnessing his continued growth and success, both at the national and international levels.
