A Wilmington day care worker has been charged with felony counts of child abuse at a day care facility, with concerns over the possibility of additional victims, according to the New Castle County Police Department. Samantha Diaz, a 22-year-old woman, has been charged with one felony count of suffocation and one felony count of child abuse in the second degree. The charges stem from an incident on Feb. 1 at the Educational Enrichment Center in Wilmington, where the victim woke up from a nap with suspicious injuries on their face. After being taken to Nemours Children’s Hospital, the child was treated and released. Diaz, who worked at multiple day cares, is being held on $70,000 cash bail. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact the police. This unfortunate incident highlights the need for diligence when choosing a day care facility for children.
