West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee to Ensure Payment of 21 Lakh MGNREGA Workers by February 21

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has pledged to transfer funds to the bank accounts of 21 lakh MGNREGA workers in the state by February 21. Banerjee, who has been staging a 48-hour dharna in Kolkata, demanded the release of unpaid dues from the central government’s social welfare schemes. In addition to providing financial support to the workers, she also announced plans to address the unreleased funds for the Awas Yojana.

We do not want to beg from the BJP nor do we want their alms, stated Banerjee during her protest. By February 21, we will transfer money to the bank accounts of 21 lakh workers who did not receive payment from the central government despite their contributions under the 100-day work scheme (MGNREGA) over the past three years. This is my first step.

Banerjee expressed her determination to overcome the challenges posed by the central government. Refusing to allow Bengal to suffer, she assured the workers that she would gradually release the remaining stuck funds. The central government is thinking that they will starve Bengal to death. We will not allow them to succeed in that. Have faith in me. I will try to slowly clear, step by step, those funds which are still stuck, she declared.

The announcement brings hope to the 21 lakh MGNREGA workers in Bengal who have tirelessly contributed to the state’s development but have yet to receive their due compensation. Banerjee’s commitment to resolving these outstanding payment issues not only addresses the immediate financial concerns of the workers but also sends a strong message of defiance to the central government.

The MGNREGA scheme, launched in 2005, aims to provide employment to rural workers and uplift their livelihoods. It guarantees a minimum of 100 days of employment per year to eligible individuals. However, the non-payment of wages has been a persistent issue, impacting the lives of laborers relying on the scheme.

Banerjee’s decision to prioritize the payment of MGNREGA workers demonstrates her commitment to protecting the well-being and rights of the working class in Bengal. By taking a stand against the central government, she champions their cause and promises to provide the necessary financial support they deserve.

As the chief minister continues her protest, demanding justice for the state and its workers, the sound of her resolute voice resonates across the nation. Mamata Banerjee’s determined endeavor to ensure the welfare of her people serves as an inspiration, showing that even in the face of adversities, leadership remains resilient.
