Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MCC) President Nana Patole has urged the Maharashtra government to make efforts to bring the Micron semiconductor chip manufacturing project to the state. He wrote a letter to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stating that Maharashtra is the leading state in the country for investment and that the state government should ensure that the investment of the Micron project cost of Rs 22,000 crores takes place in Maharashtra.

Patole highlighted that even though Maharashtra is the number one state for foreign investment, some important projects have moved out of the state in the past year. The Union Cabinet has approved the Rs 22,000 crore Micron semiconductor chip manufacturing project, which will be sealed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s current visit to America.

Patole pointed out that since the Vedanta Foxconn’s semiconductor chip project, which would have brought an investment of Rs 1.5 lakh crore and employment to lakhs of unemployed youth, has gone to Gujarat, Maharashtra has suffered a great loss. He emphasized that the Maharashtra government should make efforts to bring the Micron project to Maharashtra to cover that loss.

Pune is an industrial cluster and is conveniently located in terms of airports, ports, and road transport. Skilled manpower is required for this project, and necessary facilities are available in this area, Patole noted.

In the letter to the Chief Minister, Patole added, So it will be easy for the investing company to set up the project here and start the production soon. He expressed his confidence that this project would provide a large amount of employment opportunities from complementary industries and boost the state’s economy.

Patole’s request comes at a time when Maharashtra is experiencing a shortage of skilled workers in the information technology (IT) industry due to the COVID-19 pandemic. By bringing the Micron semiconductor chip manufacturing project to Maharashtra, the state government could provide much-needed employment opportunities to the state’s youth.
