Micron Technology, a leading American producer of computer memory and data storage devices, has announced plans to establish a $2.75 billion semiconductor assembly and test facility in Gujarat, India. The project, spanning two phases, will attract an investment of $825 million from Micron, while the government will provide fiscal support for half of the project’s total cost. The facility will create up to 5,000 new Micron jobs and 15,000 community jobs. The new facility will assemble and test microchips for DRAM and NAND products, serving both local and international markets. Construction is expected to begin in 2023, with the first stage coming online in late 2024 while the second phase is expected to start in the latter half of the decade. Micron President and CEO, Sanjay Mehrotra, thanked India’s government for their cooperation in enabling the establishment of the new facility. The investment is considered a building block in India’s growing semiconductor ecosystem.
