The Nigeria Customs Service has apprehended a suspect involved in a case of impersonation and fraud. The individual, identified as Abdul-Rahman Ibrahim, was arrested by the Customs Police Unit for pretending to be the Comptroller-General of Customs and extorting money from unsuspecting citizens. The suspect also impersonated the Chief of Staff to the President and the Secretary of the Ministry of Interior.
During the arrest, Mr. Ibrahim was found in possession of counterfeit documents, including fake Customs and NSCDC appointment letters. He had been using these documents to deceive people into paying him for ‘job appointment letters,’ resulting in the extortion of over N1 million. The suspect, in his confession, implicated other accomplices in the fraudulent operation.
The Nigeria Customs Service expressed its determination to apprehend all individuals involved in the scam, promising additional investigations and prosecution. The Customs also emphasized its commitment to combating criminal elements who exploit the organization’s name for fraudulent activities. They pledged to protect citizens from such schemes and maintain the integrity of the Customs Service.
This arrest serves as a reminder of the constant vigilance required to identify and apprehend individuals engaged in criminal acts aimed at tarnishing the reputation of the Nigeria Customs Service while exploiting unsuspecting members of the public. The Service remains dedicated to upholding the law and protecting citizens from fraudulent activities. By taking swift action against fraudulent individuals, the Customs Service hopes to safeguard its reputation and maintain public trust.
