The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has conducted searches at 8 locations in Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in the award of a tender for civil works on the Kiru Hydroelectric Project. The project is being executed by Chenab Valley Power Projects Private Limited (CVPPPL). During the searches, digital devices, computers, property documents, and incriminating documents were recovered, along with cash amounting to over Rs 21 lakhs. The case was registered based on a reference received from the Government of Jammu and Kashmir against the then chairman, managing director, directors of CVPPPL, a private company, and unknown others.
According to the CBI statement, the allegations include a failure to follow guidelines regarding e-tendering in the award of civil works for the Kiru Hydroelectric Project. It was also alleged that a decision taken during the 47th board meeting of CVPPPL to re-tender through e-tendering with reverse auction was not implemented. Instead, the decision of the 48th board meeting reversed the previous decision.
The investigation is ongoing, and the CBI is scrutinizing the recovered documents and evidence to establish the facts of the case. The searches and subsequent recovery of items highlight the importance of addressing any alleged irregularities in projects of national importance.
