A French research ship, equipped with a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV), has arrived close to the wreckage of the Titanic as part of the rescue effort for a missing submersible. The Atalante carries the Victor 6000, capable of reaching depths of 6,000 metres. The tourist submersible, Titan, carrying five people, began its descent towards the wreck on Sunday but lost contact later that day. Rescue efforts have focused on detecting underwater noises, but rescuers estimate the passengers may run out of oxygen on Thursday. The possibility of using the Victor 6000 in an underwater rescue has been discussed.
