RIGBY – After years of training athletes in Louisiana, Keith Director is bringing his expertise to eastern Idaho with the opening of his private gym. Director Boxing & Training, located at 3119 East 800 North in Chester, focuses on providing individualized training to help athletes excel in their respective sports.
Director’s journey began over 30 years ago when a shoulder injury dashed his dreams of pursuing a professional baseball career. Undeterred, he immersed himself in the world of athletic training, working alongside athletes and trainers at a boxing gym. Now, as the owner of his own gym, Director is determined to offer a unique approach to training.
Unlike traditional boxing gyms, Director Boxing & Training caters to athletes from various sports, offering specific exercises and techniques tailored to their individual needs. Whether it’s improving footwork, speed, hand-eye coordination, balance, or core strength, Director aims to enhance overall performance through functional training methods.
Training sessions typically last an hour, accommodating each client’s specific requirements and interests. Since arriving in the area, Director has been met with an overwhelming response, attracting a diverse range of athletes, including a Rigby woman training for competitive fighting.
Director’s foray into fitness and conditioning began when his doctor advised him to pursue rehabilitation training for his injured shoulder. As he developed his own workouts and witnessed personal progress, he opened his own gym in New Orleans. Unfortunately, Hurricane Ida wreaked havoc on his gym, prompting Director to seek a fresh start out west.
Drawn by the allure of mountains and snow, Director narrowed down his options to Montana, Wyoming, and ultimately chose Idaho after meeting his girlfriend from Chester. With their combined efforts, they constructed a boxing gym on their property within a week. Word quickly spread, and Director has been overwhelmed by the warm reception he has received from the local community.
Recognizing the initial reservations typically encountered by outsiders, Director believes that his energy and passion for his craft have helped him forge connections with residents. His first appointment in Chester is with a football player from North Fremont High School, marking the beginning of what Director hopes will be a flourishing venture.
Grateful for the support he has received, Director aspires to provide the same high-level training he experienced to local athletes, empowering them to reach their full potential and excel in their chosen sports. With a focus on equipping athletes with the tools necessary for success, Director hopes to guide basketball players, wrestlers, and athletes from all backgrounds to new heights.
Director Boxing & Training opens on Monday, signaling the beginning of Director’s mission to shape athletes into champions. As he embarks on this exciting chapter, his dedication to cultivating greatness remains unwavering.
