The Prince Albert Northern Bears had a mixed start to their campaign at the Female World Sport School Challenge, splitting their first two games. In their opening match, the Bears secured a 3-1 victory over the Winnipeg Avros. Coach Steve Young praised his team’s enthusiastic start and consistent performance throughout the game. Ella Clarke and Zayda Summach scored for Prince Albert, while Mackenzie Lizotte netted the lone goal for Winnipeg. Annika Neufeldt’s impressive goaltending, with 40 saves, played a pivotal role in the Bears’ triumph.
However, the Bears couldn’t maintain their winning momentum and suffered a 6-1 defeat against the Southern Alberta Hockey Academy (SAHA) in their second game. Coach Young acknowledged that the final scoreline didn’t reflect the nature of the game, emphasizing that the Bears had a brief lapse during which they conceded crucial goals. Keira Grant, Maddison Andrew, and Kenzie Carson were among the goal scorers for SAHA, with Addison Davidge netting the solitary goal for Prince Albert.
Looking ahead, Coach Young emphasized the importance of consistency and learning from the lapses to prevent further concessions. The Bears were next scheduled to face the Yellowhead Chiefs, although the results were not available at the time of writing.
With the first victory boosting their confidence and the subsequent defeat highlighting areas for improvement, the Prince Albert Northern Bears will strive to regroup and deliver a strong performance in their upcoming matches.
