A dad from Litherland has been given devastating news after visiting the hospital with a leg pain. Phil Hatton, 54, initially noticed blood when using the toilet in August 2023, which prompted him to seek medical attention. Doctors discovered a cyst on his liver, but Phil’s health concerns did not end there. Shortly after, he began experiencing pain in his right thigh, leading to an X-ray that revealed cancer in his leg bone, which had caused a fracture. The severity of Phil’s condition meant that the cancer had spread throughout his body, including his kidneys. Doctors delivered the heartbreaking news that his condition was terminal, giving him a prognosis of six months to live.
To help Phil, who worked as a doorman, create lasting memories with his wife Norma and their four children, Matthew, Lydia, Maisie, and Charlotte, his friends and family have organized a fundraising walk. Around 50 individuals close to Phil will participate in a nearly 41-mile journey from Moon Cafe in Crosby to Blackpool Tower on March 4th. The aim is to raise funds and ensure that Phil and his family can enjoy their remaining time together to the fullest.
Ricky Clark, one of the organizers and a close friend of Phil’s, explained the purpose behind the walk, stating, We’re doing this so that Phil can make everlasting memories with his family and make the most of the time he has left. Phil was the fittest of us and the fittest 40-year-old I knew, which is why we’re walking.
Expressing his gratitude for the support he has received, Phil’s nephew, Mark Hatton, shared, When I have spoken to Phil [about the fundraiser], he says he’s really overwhelmed by all the generosity and has been tearing up, which really isn’t like him. We’re doing the walk in the rubbish weather in March to get it done as quickly as possible for him.
Donations to support Phil and his family can be made through his dedicated JustGiving page. By contributing to this cause, individuals can make a difference in ensuring that Phil creates lasting memories with his loved ones during his remaining time.
As the family and their supporters come together to face this challenging situation, their strong bond and determination to make the most of the time they have left is truly inspiring. The resilience and love shown by Phil and his family serve as a reminder of the preciousness of life and the importance of cherishing every moment.
