The 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata receives updates and a higher base price of $30,150 for the upcoming model year. The changes aim to refine the well-regarded sports car even further. One noticeable update is the revised headlights featuring new LED daytime running lights, while the rear gets new LED taillights. The MX-5 Miata also offers new wheel patterns and a new color called Aero Gray.

Inside the vehicle, Mazda has added extra padding around the center console for improved comfort. The gauge cluster now boasts graphics that are easier to read at a glance, and the infotainment system is upgraded with a larger 8.8-inch touchscreen display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility are now standard, as well as Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant.

Mazda also focused on improving the car’s performance. The 2024 MX-5 Miata benefits from a new steering rack that reduces friction, resulting in smoother steering action during cornering and improved stability when cruising on the freeway. The track-oriented Club grade receives a Track mode for the electric stability control, giving drivers more leeway on the track. Additionally, an asymmetric limited-slip differential is now available, enhancing handling and delivering more predictable turn-in.

Under the hood, all MX-5 Miatas feature a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine generating 181 horsepower, with power sent to the rear wheels. The standard transmission is a 6-speed manual, but buyers of the Grand Touring grade can opt for a 6-speed automatic for an additional $920.

While Mazda has not provided specifics on how long the current generation MX-5 Miata will remain in production, the automaker has hinted at the possibility of future electrification. Mazda’s Iconic SP concept, showcased at the 2023 Tokyo auto show, highlighted a potential direction for the brand. It featured an electric powertrain with a rotary engine serving as a range-extender, similar to a series plug-in hybrid setup. However, Mazda may reserve this technology for a larger sports car, possibly an RX-8 successor.

The 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata is set to go on sale later this winter, offering enthusiasts the chance to experience the iconic roadster with its new updates and refined features.
