Hostels in Indore, the financial and educational hub of Madhya Pradesh, are failing to provide students with adequate living conditions, according to reports. Despite boasting over 2,000 hostels and PG facilities, students in girls’ hostels have complained of dilapidated rooms with rickety beds and unclean washrooms, as well as tasteless, nutritionally deficient food and non-potable water. The issue came to a head in January this year when protesters staged a mass demonstration over conditions at a boarding facility. However, similar issues persist, including a lack of seasonal vegetables in food and reports of theft. Meanwhile, a unified hostel association is also lacking, leading to variations in prices and conditions.
