Fulton County DA Fani Willis explosive accusations: New documents in special prosecutor controversy
ATLANTA – Explosive new allegations have emerged surrounding the controversial relationship between Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and special prosecutor Nathan Wade. The allegations came to light on Friday with the release of new documents.
In court filings, attorneys representing Wade’s estranged wife, Joycelyn Wade, submitted bank records that they claim demonstrate a personal relationship between Wade and Willis. The documents also suggest that the two took multiple vacations together during the investigation into the Georgia election interference case involving former President Donald Trump and other co-defendants.
The bank records reportedly show that Wade purchased plane tickets for himself and Willis to travel to San Francisco. While other travel charges, including vacation packages and a cruise, do not explicitly mention Willis’ name, they raise questions about the nature of their relationship.
When approached for comment about these newly filed court documents, a spokesperson for Willis declined to provide a statement. However, Willis herself spoke out on Sunday to defend her decision to appoint Wade to the high-profile case. She asserted that she had appointed three special counsels, paid them all the same hourly rate, and that Wade was being unfairly targeted.
However, documents obtained by FOX 5 reveal discrepancies in the pay rates of the special prosecutors. While both Wade and Anna Cross were compensated at a rate of $250 per hour, John Floyd received considerably lower compensation in both of his agreements, with one contract paying him $150 per hour and the other increasing it to $200 per hour.
Former DeKalb County District Attorney J. Tom Morgan expressed difficulty in comparing compensation in such a unique and historic case. Morgan explained that the magnitude of the case itself presented significant opportunities for attorneys to be involved.
Former Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter questioned Wade’s qualifications for leading the case, particularly in comparison to Floyd and Cross. Porter noted that although Wade’s selection may be questionable, there is nothing inherently sinister about it as long as there were no kickbacks to Willis. Porter emphasized that the case against former President Donald Trump should remain unaffected by the controversy.
Willis also filed an emergency motion for a protective order, requesting that she not be required to testify in a deposition for the divorce case involving Wade and his estranged wife. Willis argued that her testimony would be irrelevant to the divorce proceedings, as the marriage was irretrievably broken and fault was not at issue.
The judge overseeing the election interference case against former President Donald Trump and his co-defendants has scheduled an evidentiary hearing to address the allegations of an improper relationship between Willis and one of the prosecutors. The hearing is set to take place on Thursday, February 15, and Willis must submit a written response to the accusations by February 2.
As this controversy continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how it will impact the ongoing case against former President Donald Trump and the other co-defendants. The allegations of a personal relationship between Willis and Wade have raised concerns about impartiality and the integrity of the legal proceedings.
