Patanjali Research Foundation (PRF) Set to Investigate Spike Protein of Omicron’s New JN-1 Variant
JAMMU, Jan. 18 – In a groundbreaking move, the Patanjali Research Foundation (PRF) has announced its plans to commence research on the spike protein of the latest JN-1 variant of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
At a function held today in Jammu, Acharya Balkrishna, General Secretary of PRF, declared this significant decision, highlighting the unprecedented nature of studying the spike protein of the JN-1 variant in India. He expressed his pride in PRF becoming the country’s first organization to undertake a comprehensive investigation into the JN-1 variant.

The spike protein samples of the JN-1 COVID variant were obtained by Patanjali Research Foundation from China’s Sino Biological Lab. This variant, classified as a distinct variant of interest (VOI) by the World Health Organization (WHO), has been deemed separate from its parent lineage BA.2.86.
Dr. Anurag Varshney, Chief Scientist at Patanjali Research Foundation, stated that they would evaluate the impact of Coronil, Patanjali’s potential anti-COVID drug, on the spike protein of the JN-1 variant.
