A medical doctor in Georgia has been sentenced to more than seven years in prison after pleading guilty to a murder-for-hire plot. Dr. James Wan, 54, used the dark web to seek out a hitman in an attempt to have his girlfriend killed. Wan transferred over $16,000 in Bitcoin to a dark web marketplace as payment for the proposed murder. Fortunately, the FBI discovered the plot in time and placed the girlfriend in protective custody. Wan’s medical license has now lapsed, and he is no longer affiliated with the clinic where he previously practiced. He was sentenced to seven years and three months in federal prison. This case underscores the FBI’s commitment to protecting citizens from acts of violence and showcases their determination to bring those responsible to justice.
