Former AIADMK leader Sasikala makes surprise visit to Kodanad
Nilgiris (Tamil Nadu), January 18: Former AIADMK leader VK Sasikala made a surprising visit to the Kodanad estate in Nilgiris on Thursday, marking her first visit in seven years since the demise of former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J Jayalalithaa.
As Sasikala arrived, she received a warm reception from the locals and estate workers, who celebrated her visit with bursting firecrackers and offering flower bouquets.
Addressing the media, Sasikala expressed her purpose for the visit, stating, I have come to see the laborers working in the Kodanad plantation. I did not expect to see them in such a situation. Earlier, I used to come only with Amma (Jayalalithaa).
In response to a question about the murder of security guard Om Bahadur at the Kodanad estate, Sasikala mentioned that Bahadur had been employed at the estate from a young age, adding that she believed those involved in the murder and robbery incident would be brought to justice.
Her visit also held religious significance, as she stated, I have come to Kodanad to offer pooja (worship) to Jayalalithaa on my part, and her statue will be opened soon.
Regarding the recent split within AIADMK, Sasikala revealed her continuous efforts to unite the party, expressing optimism in the success of her endeavors in the near future.
The Kodanad estate, spanning across 906 acres, was previously owned by former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and her close associate VK Sasikala. In 2017, a murder-robbery incident occurred at the estate, resulting in the death of one security guard and the theft of 10 watches and a crystal rhino worth Rs 42,000.
The primary accused in the case, Kanagaraj, died in a car accident. Presently, ten individuals, including Chayan and Valaiyar Manoj, who are allegedly involved in the murder-robbery case, have been arrested and are currently out on bail.
The case has been ongoing for the past six years in the Utagai District Court, with the investigation being conducted by the CBCID police.
Sasikala’s surprise visit to Kodanad has captured the attention of many, as she pays tribute to the late Jayalalithaa and strives to unite the divided AIADMK party. As developments continue in the murder-robbery case, all eyes remain on the pursuit of justice for the heinous crime.
