Three police officers, including the Bilkhiriya police station TI BP Singh, have been sent to police lines by the Superintendent of Police (rural) Kiranlata Kerketta for allegedly assaulting members of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The ABVP members were staging a protest outside the police station against a private institution when they were reportedly attacked by police officers. Protests began when the Corporate Institute of Engineering and Pharmacy demanded a large sum of money from students whose attendance was short and proceeded to assault them when they tried negotiating. ABVP leader Rahul Dhakad lodged a complaint against the institution at Bilkhiriya police station, but after the college authorities were called to the station, they were released after five minutes of interrogation. When ABVP workers staged a sit-in outside the police station, TI Singh called them inside and asked them to end their protest. When they refused, TI Singh and two inspectors allegedly assaulted them, leading to further protests and the blocking of Raisen Road throughout the night. Early Wednesday morning, SP Kerketta and DIG Bhopal (Rural), Monika Shukla, arrived at the scene to investigate and sent the police officers involved to the lines. The ABVP has been assured that their grievances will be addressed.
