The leader of the Conservative group in Sandwell Council has been suspended for the second time in just over two years. Councillor David Fisher, who previously had to step down in December 2021 due to historic offensive social media posts, has now been suspended again by the Sandwell’s Conservative Federation following complaints made against him by fellow Tories.

Fisher first had to relinquish his leadership position in December 2021 after it was revealed that he had made offensive posts on social media in the past. Despite this, he was reinstated as group leader in May 2022 after his successor, Rowley Councillor Laured Kalari, was also suspended for offensive social media posts, including remarks about murder victim Sarah Everard.

However, it seems that Fisher’s return to leadership was short-lived, as complaints against him led to his suspension once again. The exact nature of these complaints has not been disclosed, but it is clear that they were serious enough to warrant his removal from the position.

The suspended councillor represents the Charlemont and Grove Vale ward. With his suspension, the Conservative group in Sandwell Council will now have to find a new leader to guide them going forward.

While these suspensions have undoubtedly disrupted the party’s leadership in the council, they also highlight the significance and impact of social media on public figures. In an increasingly digital age, it is vital for politicians to be mindful of their online presence and the potential consequences of their actions and words.

The Conservative Party has not yet commented on the latest suspension, but it is expected that further details will emerge in due course. As with any disciplinary action within a political organization, it is crucial for all parties involved to carefully consider the allegations and follow a fair and transparent process.

This latest suspension raises questions about the culture and conduct within the Conservative group in Sandwell Council. It remains to be seen how the party will address these issues and restore confidence among its members and the wider public.

The Express & Star will continue to monitor this situation closely and provide updates as they become available.
