Brooklyn dad shot dead on NYC Subway trying to break up fight

‘He always wanted peace.’ A father-of-three was shot dead on a NYC subway after trying to break up an argument over loud music. The gunman remains on the loose.

Richard Henderson, 45, of Crown Heights, was on his way home from watching a football game when he was killed on a Manhattan-bound 3 train from Brooklyn at around 8.15pm on Sunday, according to the NYPD.

The dad of three sustained two gunshot wounds, one to his back and the other to his shoulder, and tragically died at around 9.05pm. The suspect remains at large, as reported by FOX5.

He would give you the shirt off his back. He would help you. In a situation, he would be the first one to try to help. He just was about peace and wanting everybody to get along, said a close friend of Henderson.

Henderson had boarded the No 3 train with a friend at the Pennsylvania Ave. station in East New York. The shooter entered at the next stop and soon began arguing with another passenger over loud music being played.

With his innate desire for peace, Henderson stepped in to pacify the situation. However, instead of resolving the dispute, the shooter turned the gun on him, firing multiple shots as the train approached the Rockaway Ave. stop before making a swift escape.

Police are currently investigating whether the shooter intended to target Henderson or the man he was arguing with. Detectives are also looking into whether the train skipped five stops in between, as authorities found Henderson wounded at the Franklin Ave.-Medger Evers College stop.

Despite being swiftly rushed to Kings County Hospital, Henderson tragically succumbed to his injuries. As of now, the NYPD has not made any arrests in connection with the shooting.

Henderson’s tragic death has left a void in the lives of his family, friends, and community. He was a devoted husband, loving father of three, and doting grandfather to two grandchildren. Described as a peaceful and selfless man, Henderson worked as a crossing guard at a private school on the Upper West Side and was known for always putting others before himself.

He just wanted to make sure people were okay around him, that there was no commotion, no beef, no problems, said his oldest son, Richard Jr. He was a peaceful man. There was never any beef between him and anybody, he got killed because he was trying to make peace. Everyone here is numb. We’re still just trying to come to believe that this is real.

As the community mourns the tragic loss of a well-meaning father, friends, and loved ones gathered outside Henderson’s Brooklyn home for a vigil. Many are left questioning the ultimate sacrifice he made in his attempt to foster peace.

The authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in identifying the shooter. In the meantime, the investigation into the shocking incident continues, and the search for justice for Richard Henderson remains ongoing.
