Tejashwi Yadav, the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and a leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has stated that next year’s Lok Sabha elections will not be fought in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking ahead of a meeting between key opposition leaders in Patna on 23 June, Yadav explained that a change is the need of the hour as people’s issues need to be brought to the fore. Yadav’s comments were made in the context of efforts by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to form a grand alliance of opposition parties against the Bharatiya Janata Party-led federal government. Reports suggest that Kumar’s meeting with Yadav and other leaders will help to build the case for an alternative to Modi’s leadership.
