Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials raided the Mumbai residence of Suraj Chavan, a close aide of Aaditya Thackeray, the leader of the Uddhav Thackeray faction. Officials have alleged that this is in connection with the alleged Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) COVID Centre scam. ED officials conducted raids at the residence of Chavan in Mumbai’s Chembur area, along with more than 15 other locations of BMC officers, suppliers, and Indian Administration Services officers in Mumbai. Alongside the ED raids, former minister Aaditya Thackeray made allegations against the BMC administration, stating that a street furniture scam is taking place in the civic body. In his tweet, he alleged that the BMC is sheltering the corrupt friends of Khoke Sarkar, and several MLAs from various parties sought answers from the corrupt BMC administration that has direct blessings from the illegal chief minister for corruption. Earlier this year, BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya alleged corruption in procuring Remdisivir injections during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Maharashtra Lokayukta exculpated the BMC of any irregularity or non-transparency in a complaint filed by the BJP leader. The Lokayukta order indicated that there was no established proof of any corruption in the injection’s purchase.
